Vineyard

The Hermitage vineyard lies on sun-drenched granite slopes overlooking the Rhône River. The terroir provides ideal conditions for growing Syrah, with excellent drainage and thermal variation. Etienne Guigal sources fruit from select low-yield plots to ensure depth and complexity. The stony soils contribute to the power and structure of the wine. Wine

Guigal’s Hermitage 2005 is a precise and deep red wine with remarkable complexity. It captures the terroir's essence, combining intensity with elegance. Vintage

The 2005 vintage in the northern Rhône was hot and dry, providing ideal ripening for Syrah. The growing season was steady, leading to healthy, concentrated grapes. It's widely regarded as one of the best vintages of the early 21st century. The wine displays maturity, ripe tannins, and refined structure. It promises long cellaring capacity.

Vinification & Aging

Traditional vinification with extended maceration extracts deep color and aroma. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine is aged 30 to 36 months in oak barrels, a notable portion of which is new. This long aging enhances texture, complexity, and balance. Every step prioritizes harmony and expression of terroir.
