A historic estate founded in 1685

Klein Constantia is one of South Africa’s oldest and most prestigious wine estates. Established in 1685 by Governor Simon van der Stel, it lies on the eastern slopes of the Constantiaberg mountain, just outside Cape Town. With its granite soils and cool oceanic breezes, the estate quickly became known for producing some of the world’s most famous wines as early as the 18th century.

A unique terroir between ocean and mountain

The vineyard enjoys a cool maritime climate, ideal for white grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscat de Frontignan. The varied altitudes and exposures create a rich diversity of microclimates, enhancing aromatic complexity and natural freshness. Klein Constantia focuses on sustainable and precise viticulture to express this exceptional heritage.

Vin de Constance: a legendary sweet wine

The estate’s crown jewel is the iconic Vin de Constance, a sweet wine made from Muscat grapes that once captivated the world. Favored by Napoleon, Baudelaire, and Jane Austen, this wine continues to charm with its complexity, aromatic richness, and perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. It ranks among the world’s finest dessert wines.

Elegant and expressive dry wines

In addition to its legendary sweet wine, Klein Constantia produces a refined range of dry wines. Its Sauvignon Blanc is a signature style—tense, pure, and mineral—while red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot offer structure and aging potential. Each cuvée is crafted with a focus on finesse and expression.

A modern estate rooted in heritage

Modernized in the early 2000s, Klein Constantia has successfully merged tradition with innovation. Its dedicated team preserves historical savoir-faire while embracing sustainable viticulture. Today, Klein Constantia stands as a symbol of South African excellence, where legacy and renewal meet in every bottle.
